Four favorite reads from "Queer Eye" chef Antoni Porowski

AntoniPorowski_photo_by_LukeFontana_225W.jpgAntoni Porowski is the much-loved food and wine guru from the popular Netflix series Queer Eye, and he joins fellow Queer Eye stars in releasing his first book this year: a cookbook called Antoni in the Kitchen.

Antoni in the Kitchen is as stylish as the author himself, and Porowski pulls the reader in with a warm tone, personal stories, and 10 culinary mantras that you will likely want to adopt for yourself. The recipes cover weeknight meals, feeding friends, baked treats, and much more. As you would expect, everything Porowski puts together looks absolutely amazing, and I pretty much want to make every recipe in this cookbook.

Porowski is a cook and also a reader--below are four of his recent favorites and what made each book stand out for him.

*Antoni in the Kitchen is an editors' pick for the best cookbooks of September.

Year of the Monkey by Patti Smith

I’ve read pretty much everything she’s ever produced and am a huge fan of her work. Poetic, hopeful and kind. Those are my 3 words to describe her best. Though I haven’t read this one yet as it isn’t out, I'm super excited.

High School by Sara Quin

This duo has been the soundtrack of my life for years. I love that they’re offering a glimpse into their past. It’s relatable as hell and I love a bit of nostalgia.

Franny and Zooey by J. D. Salinger

I like to revisit this book every year. We should all have a classic worth going back to and this is mine. Catcher in the Rye changed me as a person and this book, which is my favorite work of Salinger’s, should be celebrated.

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

I haven’t referenced this book in a while, nor have I worn the famous t-shirt with the four characters’ names. This book changed me forever and has had a profound effect on anyone I know who’s read it. It’s about kindness and showing up for people on our lives who need unconditional love. My face warms just writing about it.
