DigitalLife Day 2019: for greater sustainability and efficiency

DigitalLife Day 2019: for greater sustainability and efficiency

For already the fifth time, Daimler is inviting its employees from the different divisions to the DigitalLife Day, which this year again takes place at the Werkzentrum Weststadt convention centre in Ludwigsburg. For the some 1000 participants, everything here is about digitisation. The objective: informing about new ideas and trends, providing tangible experiences of ideas and advancing their realisation. Because the digital transformation is changing the company and the daily work routine. It is an important lever for a successful corporate transformation and has effects on employees, production equipment, plants, products and services.

DigitalLife Day means to live digitisation
In addition, digitisation offers the big opportunity for greater sustainability and efficiency – two important topics at Daimler. That is why they are the focus of this year’s DigitalLife Day.

How much commitment there is to live digitisation is evident in a host of ideas that are being developed and realised by the Daimler employees. Ten of them were selected for the DigitalLife Day, which are introduced by the respective employee teams in a presentation that runs for a maximum of three minutes. A jury selects the three best teams from these pitches, whose idea will be supported by a sponsor from now on. They have the opportunity not only to pursue their idea further as entrepreneurs, but help shape its implementation into a concrete result themselves. Independent of the decision of the jury, the some 1000 participants are able to vote for their personal pitch winner this year for the first time – by app.

Partner companies present latest developments of the digitisation
More than 40 speakers talk on the four stages of the DigitalLife Day. They include representatives of partner companies such as Cisco, DXC, HERE, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, SAP and T-Systems. The external partners also have their market booth in the event space covering more than 5000 square metres and provide information here about latest developments of the digitisation.

Digital innovations on display at over 40 market booths
The Daimler-internal teams are represented in the market square of digital innovations with more than 40 booths. They provide practical tips for greater sustainability and efficiency. At the market booth of CIMme (CIM: Cooperation & Innovation Management), the participants immerse themselves in a platform that offers them strategic partnerships with external companies in order to implement innovations in vehicles and ecosystems faster and more efficiently. The CIMme platform provides information about all Group-wide cooperative ventures and in this way helps to find the right cooperation partner. In addition, it offers an extensive analysis of potential partners.

At another market booth, Daimler employees showcase the smart “ready to” services. As a pioneer of the digital services centred on the vehicle, the team has created an ecosystem for the services intended to simplify life in cities. Experts from specialist units, for example game design, future living, digital transformation or performance marketing, are designing a modern development of digital services here. The visitor is awaited by a holistic picture of digital services culminating in the series-production implementation within the company.

Other market booths such as, for example, that on “Ambition 2039”, offer insights into the carbon-neutral mobility vision of Daimler. In addition, a CO2 life-cycle analysis of different powertrain variants with a focus on the new EQ product and technology brand is being presented.

Twelve interactive workshops: practical and easy to understand
The DigitalLife Day also stands for new working methods. The importance of new partnerships increases along with this. An example of this is Daimler AG’s cooperation with Microsoft in establishing the global big-data platform eXtollo. The interactive eXtollo workshop explains, for example, frequently used terms such as artificial intelligence, big data and cloud in an easy to understand way: How do you train artificial intelligence and how do you do agile programming in a cloud environment? In this practical workshop, the participants create their own AI model on the eXtollo platform together with the experts of the Centre of Excellence Advanced Analytics and Big Data.

DigitalLife@Daimler: leading the digital transformation
Daimler has been systematically active in the field of digitisation for a long time and has made it a core component of its corporate strategy. The aim is to push ahead with the digital transformation and to make the culture of innovation tangible for all employees. DigitalLife@Daimler supports the implementation of numerous digital projects in the business divisions and fosters dialogue between employees, top management and board of management. The space to do so is provided by the DigitalLife Community on the Social Intranet as well as by in-house and external events such as the DigitalLife Day or by open discussion forums such as Open Spaces and hackathons. The DigitalLife core team comprises representatives of the different business units and works for the entire Group.
